The only way is up!

It's been a busy and rough first six months of 2014. January saw Richard away for work, February was the return to school for the kids as well as welcoming Squish into the family. March saw a huge spanner thrown into the mix of our marriage... It's been rocky but things are starting to improve. Our marriage has certainly taken centre stage for the past few months and will continue to need a fair bit of time and effort for a while.

I've learned a few things about myself - some good and others not so great. It's been a pretty steep learning curve and while I don't want to repeat of this, I am appreciating the things I'm learning.

I've discovered:

* I don't always take the easiest path
* I am ready, willing and able to put the required effort in to things I value - namely, my marriage!
* I am often not thoughtful in my responses
* I had been taking Richard and our marriage for granted
* I missed the intimacy and closeness that we somehow lost amongst the busyness that's our life
* our communication was really poor when it came to the things that really matter

Most importantly I think, both Richard and I have had to look at what is important to each of us and the great news is that we agree - yay!

Onward and upward as they say... Looking forward to what comes next
